Low Fat Vegetarian Recipes

by Foras Aje

For those seeking to lower their cholesterol and to lose weight, an obvious dietary choice would be vegetarian meals that are low in fat.

The great thing about these meals is that one need not worry excessively about measurements, calories etc, since most of the ingredients are low-fat.

Even in the case of the use of vegan items like Avocados, Coconuts, Durian, Nuts & Seeds, these substances only have healthy fats with zero cholesterol levels, so they can still be used with healthy results. Here are a few of my favorite vegetarian meals that are low in fat content.

SMOOTHIES

“Chocolate” Milk
-10-15 medium dates

-3 ripe bananas.

-1 Young Coconut (I don’t usually use the water inside of the nut although I heard it has some benefits)

-16 oz cold Water

Blend everything starting with the fruits then the coconut.

Strawberry Delight
-4-8 strawberries

-1-2 Bananas

-8-10 dates

SALAD DRESSINGS

A raw-chef once stated that one’s success with a vegetarian diet may hinge on his/her choice of salad dressings. Here are some healthy favorites.

Tom-Avo
-2 organic Roma or Hot House tomatoes

-2 big Avocadoes (pitted)

-2 tsp orange juice (freshly squeezed) 2 oz of water

The Real Ranch Dressing:
-2 medium sized tomatoes

-2 young coconuts

-1/2 tsp of salt

-6 organic sun dried tomatoes

-I stalk of Celery

-1 tbs of lemon juice (optional)

OTHER MEALS

Sweet Potato Pie
-Bake Garnet or Jewel yams (or Jersey Sweet Potatoes) in an oven heated to 475 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. -When it can be pierced, allow to cool. -Upon cooling, peel the vegetable and mash with avocadoes and a little bit of sea salt.

This is actually a great simple dish of most tropical countries.

Well, there it is folks, recipes for healthy vegetarian meals that are low in fat.I hope these recipes serve as a nice start to helping you discover your own favorites.

  1. Might I suggest a layer of cheese on the low fat sweet ppottao dish to make it a high fat sweet potato dish? ;)

  6. Great article, I agree that low fat vegetarian recipes can be great for losing weight. Especially for those who are overweight and eat a lot of red meats.

If you are over weight and you do eat a lot of red meat, eat low fat vegi recipes for a month, get 30 mins of moderate exercise (such as brisk walking, and you will lose a considerable amount of weight.

  7. I think that smoothies are the best thing in the world when you are trying to go on a healthy diet – as the fruits that are in them are usually more than enough to satisfy my “sweet tooth” :) Also I really like that sweet potato pie recipe, another great little meal that can cure those sugar cravings for dieters :)

  9. Nice post! I especially like Strawberry Delight)) Feels like really Tasty))

I agree that it’s not really good to eat only low fat food or not eat at all in order to lose weight:it could be harmful for your health. It’s better to switch to some healhty food rather than any junk food (though sometimes you can’t just stay), and it’s also a good idea to work out a habit to do physical training at least in the morning….then (it may take some time) but you’ll be constantly losing weight.

  10. The best thing you can do to create your own low fat vegetarian recipes is to take your current favorite vegetarian recipes and replace some of the ingredients. Instead of mixing cream into soup, try using skim or evaporated milk. Instead of using whole-milk cheeses, try substituting with low-fat cheeses.

  11. I’m a great fan of lentils for low calorie, low fat vegetarian cooking. They are such a versatile and under-rated ingredient. Some info and recipes here if you are interested http://www.everyday-vegetarian-recipes.com/lentil-recipes.html

  15. I read that over 86% of Americans are deficient in Magnesium…and vegetarians are at high risk for deficiency.

After all, even eating a balanced diet isn’t enough anymore, because our food sources are depleted in nutrients themselves!

I’ve started taking this Magnesium Oil from Mineralife and have noticed a difference just in these first few weeks.
