<p>Our existing air and water supply is contaminated as well from the enormous amounts of excrement produced by these animals,  which is far too much to fertilize the local crops so the excess is simply disposed of as waste.</p>
<p>America’s forests are being destroyed to raise cattle. If the US population switched to a plant based diet, over 20 million acres could be returned to forest.</p>

<p>It is such a sad tribute to <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/modern-medicine/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">modern medicine</a> that we are so disconnected from our whole selves that we fail to think of our bodies, minds and souls as one.  The medical system is so dehumanizing and objectifying that doctors have unfortunately succeeded in separating our bodies from our real selves for treatment.</p>
<p>While modern medical practitioners may believe themselves to be healers, only the human body is capable of healing itself.  Likewise, a person cannot heal from emotional or psychological trauma if they are not willing to heal.<br />
Medical doctors place bandaids over our injuries and can mend broken pieces and can even drug away the symptoms and pain, but true healing always takes place internally.</p>
<p>Rather than a single minded focus on healing itself, perhaps it is better to let it go and find patience and acceptance to achieve the deepest healing, as  <a href="http://heartofhealing.wordpress.com/">Heart of Healing</a> suggests:</p>

<p>Standing meditation has a number of advantages over traditional meditation including a lower likelihood of falling asleep as well as the ability to connect with the earth if you practice outdoors because many people are not willing to  sit directly on the grass for moisture, insect or weather reasons.</p>
<p>Standing meditation requires a great deal of physical and mental exertion and is surprisingly demanding. Your standing meditation should be done daily at the beginning of your QiGong practice if you want to achieve the maximum benefit.  Aim for a minimum of 20 minutes to a maximum of two hours.  Any more than that is quite difficult unless you are very young or seriously studying martial arts.</p>
<p>The Basics:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;To begin with, it requires standing with feet in a parallel position and about shoulder width distant from each other. Next, you can take a long and deep breath and say the word ‘aaaah’ each time you exhale. The next thing you need to do when practicing standing meditation is, while exhaling, to release the tension from your neck and shoulders as well as face in manner that will help melt away whatever was causing tension in those places.</p>
<p>You need to also concentrate on feeling the energy that is within you and as it settles into your legs and feet as well as hips and belly, it will help makes a strong connection between you and the earth. <p><b>A Funny Thing Happened</b><br />
Not long ago, I was riding my bike on a familiar trail near my home. I was deeply engrossed in possible topics for articles downloadable from our <a href="http://www.naturalhealingtools.com/">Natural Healing Tools</a> web site.</p>
<p>The trail is about 20 miles long. Three to four miles of it run under large power lines towering over the path. Suddenly, it hit me - the topic of my next article. <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/electromagnetic-frequency/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">EMF</a>! That buzzing sound overhead was coming from those power lines just above me. No, I couldn&#8217;t see the field of energy emanating from the lines, but I sure could sense that I was passing through an area I wasn&#8217;t comfortable with. Then, I remembered that I usually picked up my pace a little when I reached this stretch of trail, probably out of a sense of self-preservation. </p>
<p>Trying to not overreact, I remember thinking, &#8220;Hey, what you can&#8217;t see won&#8217;t hurt you&#8230;right?&#8221; I thought a little longer, then got the hell out&#8217;a there!</p>
<p>Over the last several years, I&#8217;ve speculated about the numbers of artificial energy sources - sources of <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/search/label/EMF">EMF, or Electromagnetic Fields</a> - that fill our environment. I, perhaps like you, question just how safe places like the path under the power lines are, despite overt signs of harm. Here&#8217;s where I come down on the subject of EMF. Just my opinion, but based on a growing body of hard evidence and many hours of in-depth investigation.</p>
<p> <b>A Little About EMF</b><br />
As a kid, I remember learning that our <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/sunshine/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">Sun</a>, Earth and other bodies naturally radiate electromagnetic energy of varying frequencies and intensities. Perhaps you&#8217;ve experienced the low electromagnetic frequencies generated by a lightning storm - you can feel the lightening. </p>
<p>Our sun is a natural source of EMF. We&#8217;re told to use sunscreen to protect us from UV radiation. The Northern Lights are actually solar radiation colliding with the gases in the Earth&#8217;s atmosphere. Without the protection of the atmosphere we would be bombarded with harmful, much more intense and potentially fatal radiation.</p>
<p>But these are natural sources of electromagnetic radiation and there&#8217;s only so much we can do about them. What about the new forms of artificially generated radiation? Modern technology has introduced countless new sources of electromagnetic radiation.</p>
<p>Some estimates suggest that humankind today is subjected to 100 to 200 million times more electro-magnetic radiation than our distant ancestors. One hundred to 200 million times more! How can that possibly be good for us? The sources? Those power lines I mentioned earlier, but also computers, TV&#8217;s, radio towers, cell phones and microwave ovens, to name just a few. </p>
<p>One recognized authority on the subject of EMF, Robert O. Becker, states in his book &#8220;Cross Currents&#8221; (pg.188), &#8220;We have now almost reached a state in which the entire electromagnetic spectrum has been filled up with man-made frequencies. Our electric-power systems oscillates (operates) at 50 or 60 times per second (50 - 60 Hz), just above the highest naturally occurring frequency of 30 Hz. Our microwave beams operate at billions of times per second and are getting even closer to the trillion-cycle frequencies of visible light. We have filled the previously empty electromagnetic spectrum between these two extremes with man-made radiation that never existed before on Earth. And we did it in less than eighty years.&#8221; </p>
<p> <b>Here&#8217;s the problem.</b><br />
We&#8217;re the guinea pigs! In a sense, we have been silently recruited to participate in some ongoing experiment that will impact us long-term in ways we can only imagine. Only through the outspoken concern of people and groups has the issue of what many call &#8220;electropollution&#8221; been brought to the forefront.
<p>According to Becker, there is a growing body of scientific evidence showing that exposure to man-made electromagnetic fields results in significant abnormalities in the physiology and function of <a href="http://living.amuchbetterway.com"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">living</a> organisms. The potential risks to human <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">health</a>, he says, are well documented. </p>
<p>In his book &#8220;<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0688069711?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=amuchbetteway-20&amp;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=0688069711">The Body Electric</a>&#8221; (pg.327), Becker states, <i>&#8220;Three dangers of EMF overshadow all others. The first has been conclusively proven: ELF, electromagnetic fields vibrating at about 30 to 100 hz, even if they are weaker than the earth&#8217;s field, interfere with the cues that keep our biological cycles properly timed; chronic <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/stress/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">stress</a> and impaired disease resistance result. Second, the available evidence strongly suggests that regulation of cellular growth processes is impaired by electropollution, increasing cancer rates and producing <a href="http://fertility.amuchbetterway.com">serious reproductive problems</a>. Electromagnetic weapons constitute a third class of hazards culminating in climactic manipulation from a sorcerer&#8217;s-apprentice level of ignorance.&#8221;</i></p>
<p><b>So, what are the implications?</b><br />
Let&#8217;s look at what&#8217;s known. All of those electrical devices with which we surround ourselves - office machines, computers and other devices that get plugged into a wall socket - all operate at a frequency of 60Hz. The huge power lines that cover over 500,000 miles across the United States operate at 60Hz. Studies show that these 60 Hz frequencies (ELF, extremely low frequency) have damaging effects on all life forms of life. These frequencies are suspected of contributing to or even causing <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/depression/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">depression</a>, suicides, psychosis, cancer, leukemia and a number of other physical and mental problems. Scientific evidence also indicate these frequencies can influence our genetic material during cell division, possibly linking chronic exposure to the origins of cancer (Becker, above).</p>
<p>Then there are those devices that operate at the other end of the electromagnetic spectrum, like our cell phones. Cell phones use microwaves that oscillate at billions of times per second. What are the long-term effects of using devices that operate at billions of time per second? We simply don&#8217;t know. This is an area that is much less understood. <b>What can we do to protect ourselves?</b> Here&#8217;s what I do and don&#8217;t do. Again, this is what I think and believe based on compelling scientific evidence and hundreds of hours of investigation. Follow your conscience.</p>
<p> * Don&#8217;t position your electric clock radio in close proximity to your head.</p>
<p> * Minimize all electrical devices in your bedroom.</p>
<p> * If you sleep with an electric blanket, turn it on before you get in bed and unplug it when you get in. Never keep it on while sleeping.</p>
<p> * Avoid waterbed heaters.</p>
<p> * Sit at least arms length away from your computer.</p>
<p> * Stay back from appliances when running - microwave, electric range, all of them.</p>
<p> * The larger your TV screen the further back you should sit (a readily available hand held meter will test EMF and help you determine how far back you should be).</p>
<p> * Stay at least ½ miles away from TV or radio towers.</p>
<p> * Avoid long conversations on cell phones and always wear an earpiece (above 2 minutes has shown alterations in electrical activity of the brain for at least 1 hr. after use.)</p>
<p> * Don&#8217;t wear your cell phone on your belt or in a pocket while it is on (you are still absorbing radiation)</p>
<p> * Use a landline instead of your cell phone whenever possible.</p>
<p> * Limit your time spent under fluorescent lights (they produce much different magnetic fields compared with incandescent bulbs.</p>
<p> * Before you buy a home have it tested for high levels of EMF.</p>
<p> * Consider proper grounding of household wiring.</p>
<p> * Use protective devices that have been tested in areas where there is increased EMF exposure (workplace, home, vehicle). </p>
<p> <b>In the meantime &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;</b><br />
We&#8217;re just now beginning to understand how <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/search/label/EMF">electromagnetic fields</a> affect living organisms. More hard knowledge and wider awareness are needed to help us make wise choices and ensure a safe future of the generations to come. We continue to see newer advances in technology that outpace the research being done to warn us of potential dangers. Most people continue to enjoy the comforts of these new technologies but never think about the consequences of using them.
<p>The choice to use or not use these new devices and how often or long to use them is an individual one. I&#8217;m unwilling to let the never-ending new sources of EMF work their way into my home, my car, my clothing and my work area without questioning and limiting my exposure to them. For my money, no exposure and very limited exposure is the way to go. Until there are uniform guidelines based on hard scientific evidence about how much and how long are safe for each type of device, I choose to do without or do with less. </p>
<p>It&#8217;s time we stop letting ourselves be guinea pigs. It&#8217;s time we start insisting that those elected or appointed to protect us do their job. It&#8217;s time to find out what is and isn&#8217;t happening to us after hours, days, weeks, months and years of exposure.</p>

Herbs that have pungent, sour and salty flavors stimulate fire; herbs that are astringent (drying) and bitter stimulate vata-air, or the nerve centered humour; herbs that are sweet, salty and sour stimulate or increase Kapha-water, or the mucoid humour. Finally herbs that are pungent, bitter and astringent ameliorate Kapha-water, which means they tend to increase digestive fire, expel and dry excessive fluid build up in the system, including clearing excessive fat from the body, and the accumulation of cholesterol and other fatty deposits in the veins and arteries of the body.</p>

<p> One of my dearest friends found her way to Reiki and trained to become a Reiki Master Teacher. I am fascinated, as she has shared much of her learning with me. In fact, I am fascinated by all forms of <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">Holistic Healing</a>. I am so fascinated I took on the project of creating a <a href="http://www.spiritenergyhealers.com/">website</a> for my friends who are very involved in all types of Reiki, Children&#8217;s Reiki, Shamanism, Archetypes, Healing Soul Work and Spiritual Therapy.
</p>
<p> As with my other three websites, I have vowed to try my products. I am constantly trying out new sheets and duvet covers on my bed for one of my sites and carrying the classiest <a href="http://living.amuchbetterway.com"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">green</a> laptop bag in town for another. Talk about a sparkly purse-yes, it is mine. It&#8217;s also from my second site. So now to truly be able to give a testimonial to Reiki, I had to really understand it and try it.</p>
<p> Actually, I never really experienced a true Reiki treatment until last Wednesday. Yes, I have had a mini treatment and wrote down all the information my clients handed me about Reiki, but I needed that full &#8220;I&#8217;m the client treatment.&#8221; </p>
<p> I had to renew in my mind what Reiki is, and do some reading to feel even more comfortable with the idea of it. No-it&#8217;s not a <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/massage/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">massage</a>. No-it&#8217;s not a religion. No-it doesn&#8217;t take the place of medical treatment for disease and ailments and no-it is not a belief system. It is pronounced Ray-Key. It comes from the Japanese words: Rei meaning &#8220;God&#8217;s Wisdom&#8221; or the Highest Guiding spiritual consciousness and Ki (&#8221;Chi&#8221; in Chinese) meaning &#8220;life force energy.&#8221; So it is actually &#8220;Spiritually guided life force energy.&#8221;</p>
<p> It is a noninvasive gentle type of energy work. It has been known to treat all illnesses from a simple headache to cancer. It works beautifully with all medical and therapeutic techniques for promoting recovery. Reiki is done by a gentle placement of the practitioner&#8217;s hands on the client who is fully clothed and lying down in a comforting environment. The hand positions are held for several minutes from the crown of the head to the feet, focusing on areas to get energy flowing evenly that may have become restricted by negative thoughts or habits which may be subconsciously causing <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/stress/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">stress</a>, illness or weakness. Reiki relaxes, rejuvenates and calms the <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/emotional-wellbeing/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">emotions</a> by strengthening and re-balancing the body&#8217;s energy centers (<a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/chakras/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">chakras</a>) promoting healing on the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual levels. It leaves one feeling calm and well-balanced. I studied, I understood and I was ready.</p>
<p>Here is what I experienced. First, I entered a lovely office setting with several individual rooms housing Reiki, massage, <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/reflexology/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">reflexology</a> and more. The office was professional and soothing with soft colors, a comfortable sitting area, and quiet restful <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/music-therapy/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">music</a>. As I entered my friend&#8217;s office, it was also peaceful and calm with lovely pictures, more calming music, and a small bubbling <a href="http://astore.amazon.com/amuchbetteway-20?%5Fencoding=UTF8&#038;node=143"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">fountain</a>. It was inviting, and I felt warm and at peace and ready to begin.</p>
<p> Margret&#8217;s table looked like a massage table covered with sheets and a pillow. Unlike a massage, I did not undress before lying down: I just removed shoes and jewelry and lay on my back to begin. I felt a little apprehensive. What if I felt nothing?</p>
<p>Since I am very open to holistic healing, I asked Margret to be open with me. She gets visual messages as she works on a body, and I wanted to know what she saw or felt as she worked on me. She said that not everyone wants feedback, and many just want the room to be totally quiet. From my reading and Margret&#8217;s sharing, I know that Margret is like a channeling system, and that her energy has nothing to do with mine. Reiki is guided by a Higher Intelligence and this works through Margret. She &#8220;picks up&#8221; messages, images and thoughts, and I find this interesting while others may find this frightening or too extremes. I wanted to know everything, so she began my treatment.</p>
<p>Margret held on to the crown of my head as she sat behind me. I closed my eyes and relaxed as she held the position for several minutes. She told me my energy was &#8220;scattered&#8221; as I knew it was. I felt scattered that day. She said she could visualize me at my desk and that I had papers scattered and I needed organization. Amen to that one! She has never seen this mess, and I don&#8217;t want her too! She went on to say in a very quiet voice that I have a novel waiting to be written, and my calling is to write it. This has been on my mind so much recently, and I have been writing but have not been persistent about it. In fact I began this novel seven years ago and have been waiting for retirement to finish it. Now I am retired and it is time. She said fear was holding me back.</p>
<p> Soon I felt myself capturing deep breaths and sinking into more heavy relaxation. Margret would take in my energy and cough and yawn to eliminate my negative energy and disperse my good energy.. She moved to my face, neck and arm, holding my hand for a small period of time. She told me what she saw and felt and about the conflict and sadness I have with my sister. I found myself feeling some emotion and continuing to have to breathe deeply and evenly. I felt extremely relaxed as I sunk into the massage table. As Margret moved to my energy centers, (chakras) she gave me excellent examples of what each <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/chakras/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">chakra</a> is for and how it must be moving in a clockwise manner. I was surprised when she questioned my digestive system and asked if I ache in my stomach. She said I had old memories and worries and she would help release those. Seriously, I felt nothing, but then there was a pop of pressure released from my stomach. I felt like the baby had suddenly burped, and the feeling was relief.</p>
<p> I continued to breathe hard, and suddenly, I started to cough. She said I was releasing negative energy and thoughts that were harbored in my second chakra.</p>
<p> I loved this: the music, the quiet information, the whole calming effect.</p>
<p> As I turned onto my stomach, I suddenly felt some new lower back pain. Where was that coming from? As Margret pressed on my back, she felt heat rising depicting tension and pain and questioned it. Yes, it hurt, but just starting a few minutes back. Margret left her hands positioned on my back, stating that lower back pain comes from financial concerns and worries, either past or present. She released the tension there.</p>
<p> The only thing that did not ring true to me was as Margret placed her hands on my feet and saw me spinning on my toes as a ballerina. Ballet has certainly not been in my cards although I do love to dance. (maybe not as gracefully as a ballerina!)</p>
<p> The beautiful spiritual side of this was Margret seeing several angels protecting me with my dearest grandmother at the forefront saying things to me she always said as I grew up in her presence. (She read tea leaves and attended a Spiritualist Church sometimes) I felt a glow and a warm inexplicable connection to light, warmth, energy and God. Margret said my energy was in tune at this point as she finished where she began: at the crown of my head. </p>

I felt as though I had just had a massage. I was rejuvenated yet a little worn out and very quiet. As I got up, I was given water to revitalize me and wash out released <a href="http://living.amuchbetterway.com/category/toxins/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">toxins</a>. As with a massage, I was told to drink lots of water that day.</p>
<p> I was left feeling whole and refreshed the whole day, and of course, I have an appointment for next week.</p>
<p> I am pleased to have experienced one on &#8220;my products,&#8221; and I would recommend it to everyone with an open mind and heart. If you doubt, leave this alone or read more about it. I found the experience amazing and very spiritual, but doubt would cloud the experience.</p>
<p> I truly feel that maintenance is so necessary to our lives, and Reiki is great for that. With routine care, we can eliminate the negative flow of energy and create a positive flow throughout our bodies. We can rid our bodies and minds of the negative impact of stress even though sometimes we do not feel the tensions. Rei<br />
ki is a positive experience to fight illness and <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/depression/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">depression</a>. There is definitely a strong place for Reiki in dealing with pain, injuries and illness combined with <a href="http://health.amuchbetterway.com/category/modern-medicine/"  class="alinks_links" title=""  rel="external">modern medicine</a> and many other alternative therapies.</p>

For myself, this book opened up a floodgate of possibilities that I had never been open to before.</p>

Let others who choose to be negative live their lives as they wish. You cannot change others, but you can change how you view them and thus change your feelings about them. Often that person will sense the change in you and undergo change as well,&#8221;</p>
<p> As an example of how powerful the mind is, Evers mentions the placebo effect. She writes about an American study where one hundred people with an illness received a sugar pill. They were told that the pill contained a powerful new medicine that would cure them. As a result of taking the sugar pill, one-third of the patients got better! The only reason behind their miraculous recovery was that those people believed they were going to get better.</p>
<p> &#8220;The subconscious mind sent biochemical messages to their bodies that told the healing process to go full speed ahead, and it did. They were brought back to 100% health. Trigger by their doctor&#8217;s suggestion that they were receiving a new cure, they unknowingly tapped into their subconscious minds to unleash the potent healing ability of their own bodies,&#8221; she wrote.</p>
